Off and Running

We are off and running for a good fall!  The September meeting was absolutely fabulous.   What a turn out!   We had 3 visitors and we hope they will all return next month (which will be the 3rd Saturday the 19th).      They were Sandy Ramsour, Nouhad Saade, and Shelby Hampton.
We are working on the placemats for the Johnson County Meals on Wheels recipients for Christmas 2013.      In fact, we now have 109 of the 170 placemats needed by December 1st.
Doris brought ten receiving blankets she had finished this month, which she gave to Shelby to deliver to the Cleburne pregnancy center.   We also gave Shelby one of Dana's baby blankets to take to them.    We had coffee, chatter and accomplished alot.
I have some pictures to share, woohoo!

Here we have Doris showing Peggy how to put on the binding!   LOL
I do believe Brenda is making a point!

Nouhad is sewing binding on and ironing binding for some more placemats!  She is one of the first timers that came this month!

My neighbor and friend, Sandy came to play with us too.   She is getting some instruction from Ron on bindings.
Shelby Hampton also came to play.   She is very excited to be a part of our little group.   Next month she will be sewing  bindings as well as having her coffee!
Dana brought several "crumb catchers" and beautiful crocheted baby blankets.  Truly gorgeous, Dana!

We missed Anna, Barbara and Jeanette this month.   Now that my computer is back up and running, I will post the email letter I received from a recipient of the receiving blanket at (Walls) Texas Health Hospital in Cleburne.    Very inspiring!
Please remember to keep your ears open for any new babies born in our church and anyone you may know that would appreciate/need a lap quilt.  We sure don't want to miss our own church family members!   And lastly, a big Thank You to the Bryan's for once again opening up their home to us!

Slow News

I have been remiss  in writing and I apologize.   The Christmas season just took more of my time than it should have.    On the 10th of December, Doris and I made a trip to the Meals on Wheels office in Cleburne to deliver all the pillowcases we made and packaged.   (Thank you all for working so hard on those!)   The ladies were thrilled and assured us the recipients would be too.
This picture is of Doris and the office staff .  They have since called Doris to tell her how excited everyone was to get a pillowcase delivered with their meals that week.   It is awesome how such a small act of kindness can brighten someone's life.   Thank you God, for giving us this opportunity to serve in Your name!

We have had to cancel the January meeting but will meet again in February on the 9th at the Bryan's home.   Please bring whatever you are working on or if you are wanting to learn something new, let me know that too, so we can be prepared.   I know we are out of quilts at the church.   Doris and I made a delivery to Trinity Missions and used all but one quilt.   We still have about 5 lapghans and some crumb catchers but the supply is low.   If there is any area you can help, please do what you can.

Doris and I are planning to teach a small quilt class, place to be determined.    Let me know if anyone is interested.   Spread the word.   Since we are into the small groups presentations at church this month, let us know if you see/hear someone mentioning they would like to be a part of it.   We also are desperate for people to make calls at the nursing home to visit, not just to deliver.   If you have an idea for getting others involved in the visiting/deliverying aspect, please talk to me.   My daughter's church calls that "putting the skin on the ministry".    Besides creating, we must be involved in meeting the people and letting them know we care.   It's what we all need!

See you all soon!

November Meeting

We had a  great meeting at the Bryan's with just one (or more) exception - YOU!   You were really missed!

Attending this month was Peggy (first time, yea!), Ron, Nora and myself.    The Bryan's had set up tables for us with 4, yes count em, four machines and a serger table.   I must tell you that Peggy had quite an effect on the sewing machines.   Here she is at the "third" machine after she had broken, I mean, disabled two others.

Here is Nora attempting a repair on the second machine Peggy disabled.  (broke)

This is the serger table put to good use by yours truly!

There was also an ironing station put to good use by Peggy, actually all three of us!

Ron was manning the cutting table/snack bar and doing a fine job of it.   The Bryan's also had a few customers that came in from Oklahoma to visit their store, which is lovely, I might add.   If you quilt, sew or craft with fabrics at all, you must call them and visit.   You will LOVE the selections they have in fabrics and patterns!
Nora and Ron supplied at least 30 pillowcase kits for our Christmas project.   With great assembly line precision, we were able to completely finish 20 pillowcases for the Johnson County Meals on Wheels recipients to be delivered out with their meals after our next meeting on December the 8th.    Sandy's Quilt Shop donated 52 kits which Doris has already sewn together (causing her serger to break, bummer, but she had it repaired and is back up and running!)   Country Stitches is also donating 40 kits that will be picked up and we should be able to finish those during the next meeting (our goal is 150).   Please, if anyone would like to help sew these, please call Doris  or Trudie and let us know.

And, last but not least, a round table set up for the hand crafters, knitting, crocheting and embroidery.

We are low on lap quilts so if anyone is willing to make a lap quilt, just the top approximately 40x50, please bring them to church and we will get them quilted and bound and out for delivery.   As the weather turns chilly, these will be in great demand at all the nursing homes we visit.

It has also come to my attention that we are missing an important ministry within our church walls.   We are having babies born at North Pointe Church and we need to get some baby quilts/afghans for them.   We have delivered some to the area hospitals but have neglected our own.   So if you know of someone in the church who is expecting, please let Doris, Jeanette or I know so we can get a quilt ready for them.

Also, please tell everyone at church to visit this blog.   I think they will be surprised and maybe inspired to join us when they read what we have been doing.   I know we are all gearing up for the holidays so let's always remember those in need and those forgotten.   God bless you all this Thanksgiving.   I am so grateful for all of you!

October Club Meeting

Wow, another month has just flown by!  We've all been busy getting kids & grandkids back to school and all the hoopla that goes along with it.   That said, it is nice to get back the sewing, quilting, embroidering and knitting!

We had such a wonderful turnout, great projects done and turned in and a new project on the horizon.
Doris (the quilter) worked steadily on putting bindings on and brought us a great project for Christmas.   The Johnson County Wheels on Meals recipients will be getting (from us) a new pillowcase.  The need is great and we need to have 150 of them made up by the 15th of December.  YOUR help is needed.   If you know anyone who sews and would like to volunteer, please contact me, Trudie or Doris or Nora Bryan.   We have already received donations of fabric kits from Sandy's Quilt Shop in Joshua and Country Stitches in Burleson.  Because we hope so many of you will volunteer and because the Bryans have so graciously offered, we will be meeting at their business/home in November where there will be more sewing machines available.  Also, if this works out, we may start having our meetings at their home rather than at the church.  The address will be put out in two weeks for everyone.

Here is Nora working on a quilt.
And here is Ronnie working on a quilt - yep, GUYS this is for you too!

Judy is finishing up her embroidery (which I still need to do)Barbara is still crocheting and making the most beautiful lapghans.

Here we have our knitters dueling with knitting needles!  We do have fun!
Thank you all for all the work you do.   This mission would not work without you!

September 8, 2012

What a wonderful time we had this morning.

Doris brought lots of floss, and thank you Peggy for the large box you provided.   It will be put to good use!

Lots of stamped embroidery panels for us to learn hand embroidery and there was a lot of successes happening.

Barbara was moving fast with hers as she had already done some hand embroidery before.

Judy, Dana, Brenda and I  plugged along as best we could!  LOL  We all took our projects home to finish and bring back completed (we hope) next month.

Anna continued on with her knitting.   She is doing really good.   Wish mine looked like that!

All in all the morning was so much fun.   This week Peggy is delivering some adult bibs and neck pillows to the Town Hall Nursing Home in Keene and Doris and I are going to the Crowley Nursing home off 1187 to deliver a little of everything on Thursday.  If you find yourself with extra time, please contact Jeanette about making a delivery and visitation!

We missed those who couldn't be there.   We love you all and it is so much more fun when you are here.  Come play and sew and knit and crochet with us on October 13th at 10am.  Hugs to all

Getting Ready for the 8th

Gearing up for another fun morning with all the fellow NP Comforts group.   We may even have a gentleman join us this month.   Woohoo.   Please come if you can.  We are excited and full of purpose!  A new class to learn hand embroidery is starting so come join in the fun.   See you then!

August 18, 2012

What an awesome God we serve!   Another great meeting and lots of items worked on and 4 new items brought in finished.
There were eight ladies in attendance this month and we sure missed Jane, Brenda, Ella and Peggy.   Peggy's surgery was a great success, PTL!   Hopefully she will join us next month on September 8th.  We have such fun just talking, can't you tell?

Anna and Dana were still working away on there knitting,
Jeanette, Trudie and Barbara were crocheting,

and Doris and Judy put together 4 more lapquilts.

Judy also brought in a completed quilt and took home some neck pillows to sew.

Speaking of neck pillows, Dena (Doris' neighbor) is piling up the neck pillows at her house.   She has close to 50 of them completed.  Please remember her husband, Gerald in prayer as he recovers from surgery.
We had a surprise visit from Brother Garry looking cute in shorts!    He also suggested we visit and deliver to our church shut ins.   Judy is going to get a list together for us.   We do not want to forget our own church family!

Nancy suggested we begin thinking about the Christmas packages to make for the nursing homes containing socks, toothpaste, shampoo, soap etc in fabric bags that we could make.   Also, Jeanette took the girl scout troop to Trinity Mission Nursing Home where they delivered lapghans and quilts to some residents there.   She gave the manager some adult bibs to hand out and he told her how much they really can use those.
She is going to share some of the pictures from their visit so I will post them as soon as I get them.   Jeanette was touched to find we have such a needy nursing home in our area.  This home is not for the affluent, as a general rule.   They need our love and the comfort we can provide, for sure.    Please give some consideration to whether you can be a part of the delivery team and speak to Jeanette.  Doris also delivered some baby quilts and blankets to Huguley Hospital for the parents of newborns who cannot afford such things.

May God bless you all for doing this for those less fortunate.   You are a blessing to them and to me.
