Meeting Date Change

Michelle from the NP office just confirmed that the 18th of August is open for us to meet next month.   Please mark your calendars accordingly.   Hopefully, that won't conflict with any of you.

I woke this morning with an idea for the weighted blankets that Jeanette brought to us to make for special needs kids.  Well, if you remember, I did make two lap quilts but they were not done correctly.  So yesterday at church, Jeanette brought in a weighted blanket for me to see.  Then at the lovely hour of 3am, I had a thought which brought me out to the studio at 6:30am.    I am thrilled to say I completed a blanket, crib size and it went much easier than I had expected.    Here it is.
Of course, it needs to be approved but I went ahead and wrote a little tutorial for it, just in case it's right!
The fabrics are from my stash because the fabrics they gave Jeanette are, well, yucky.   I know these don't match but I just needed to try it first.   I think it is alot like the one she brought me without a carrying strap.   If it is right, I will come up with a tutorial for the smaller lap quilts and share that with you all.
Also, Jeanette is heading up the visitations/deliveries so be sure to let her know if/when you can participate.   Thank you Jeanette!

Also, watch the yard sales for fiberfill!  And if you find yourself with a little extra time and would like to sew some binding and labels on some quilts or bibs, let me know.  I make deliveries!   LOL
Please keep Doris and her family in your prayers.   They are facing some tough stuff right now.  Peggy, I hope you are doing better too and would love to see you next month at the meeting.

Have a wonderful week everyone and know that you are an important part of this group and it's ministry.

July 14th

What a great turn out we had this month!  PTL and thank you to all who came.  Because I did not have my thinking cap on (actually I was lured into the excitement of the ladies learning to knit) I forgot to take any pictures.
Speaking of the knitting, Nancy brought packets of yarn, needles and instructions for anyone wanting to learn.  Brenda brought a coworker with her, Sam, and they both jumped right into the knitting.  Also joining them was Anna Keen.  The concentration on their faces was priceless (yep, I am kicking myself for no pics) but they all perservered and learned to knit.   They took their goodies home with them to finish and bring back next month.  Oh yes, even I tried to knit and the look on my face made Nancy laugh right out loud.  Here is a picture of my work.
Working on it here at home, I no longer have the required number of stitches on my needles so I stopped.  When I told Nancy, she said just to continue on, it will be ok.   We will see......

Nancy also brought another knitted lapghan, Barbara brought 3 more crocheted lapghans and worked on another while the rest of us sewed or learned to knit.  It was so good to have Doris with us again.   Her neighbor, Deena (who made the adult bibs) came for a few minutes to check us out.   She took home a pattern for the neck pillows and already has 8 of them done.   She has run out of fiberfill though so until we get some donated, she is at a stand still.  What a wonderful contribution to our church - maybe she'll starting attending church too.  Also Judy was there adding binding to one of the quilts I had finished this past month.   We missed Jeanette, Jane and Dana.

I am needing to reschedule next month's meeting to the third Saturday as I will be out of town on the second one.  Surprise, surprise!  I will let you know for sure when the church gets back to me on the availability of the cafe that day.   Hugs

Our first Sew In

We had our first real meeting on April 14, 2012 and discussed how everyone wanted to meet.  You know, bring what you worked on at home, or bring our machines, crochet hooks, and knitting needles and have a bit of fun talking and working on our projects.   It was unanimous to meet the next month and sew, talk, crochet and knit together.  So, the date was set for the second Saturday of each month in the Cafe at church.  Then came May and there were two conflicts at church that made it impossible for us to meet, so on to June.

June 9th - What a beautiful day it was.   Sun was shining and eight ladies came to the meeting, some were only able to stay a short time, but what a great time we had.   We set up a table for the sewing machines, except Nonni who chose her own table haha,
Nancy brought a knitted lapghan that was just beautiful but she couldn't stay.  She is going to give knitting lessons at our next meeting.   Jeanette brought us another project to consider doing for autistic children
It is to make weighted blankets for these kids.   I made two of the lap blankets.   They are NOT difficult but they are time intensive.  If anyone wants to try one, let me know.   I email you a copy of the instructions and bring you some of the material, batting and pellets you'll need.
Dana brought in a crocheted lapghan that is so pretty and Sunday at church, Barbara gave me 25 crocheted lapghans that she has done.  Wow!  I was just blown away.

Jane has made some bone shaped neck pillows and the horseshoe shaped ones as well.  She gave me the pattern for the horseshoe shaped ones so if that interests you, let me know.  I will bring the pattern to the next meeting.
Doris' neighbor, who is not a member of our church, made 107 adult bibs for us to take and she would also like to go with us when we make a visit.  Did I mention that Trinity Missions Nursing Home in Burleson is the our first "project"?  If you or anyone knows of another facility in need of some love and attention, please share.   Here are some pics of  lap quilts in progress.

Our next meeting is July 14th at 10am in the Cafe.   Come join us for some fun and fellowship, sewing and knitting or whatever you feel like.   Just come.   The more the merrier!
